Using “skins” to personalize your .mp3 player or cell phone is not breaking news. These skins have been around for a while and there are thousands of stock and custom skins to choose from that will personalize your electronic gadgets. However, a new “skin” has hit the market, allowing people to make their computer personalized and unique too. These skins are for laptop computers.
Laptop Skins
Sticking to the cover of your laptop, laptop skins add a little color and artistic flair to ordinary unexciting lids. Some laptop skins are simple, featuring stripes, polka dots, swirls, and even textures. Others feature works of art from famous artists like da Vinci and van Gogh or can even be customized with the artwork of your choice. Many laptop skins feature prints like flowers, camouflage, plaids, animal prints, scenes from nature, retro prints, pictures of scenes from life, or even the logos of sports teams.
There are companies who will make you custom laptop skins featuring your own photographs, artwork, or even with a special personalized message. The possibilities are endless and the customizations help take your laptop from plain and ordinary to stylish and original. Laptop skins also come in different sizes (from 12” to 17” sizes) and they can be custom fitted to your laptop, so there's one for every computer, regardless of size.
More Than Cool To Look At
Laptop skins do more than just give your computer some style. They also protect a laptop from the scratches, marks, and scuffs of every day wear and tear. Constantly putting your laptop in your case and getting it out again can cause minor cosmetic damage. Skins will keep these scratches and scuffs to a minimum.
Materials That Last
Laptop skins are made from either vinyl or polyurethane. They are adhered to the cover of your laptop with a gentle adhesive that is simple to peel back. Skins are easily removable and some skins are reusable for a while until the glue wears out. With frequent removal and resticking, the glue eventually wears off, requiring a new skin. Make sure the glue used in your laptop skins won't leave a residue when it's removed and that it will restick again after being removed. Most laptop skins use an adhesive called Comply that reportedly works great.
Designing Your Own Laptop Skins
To design your own skins, use a high-resolution photograph or print that is at least 200dpi, or 200 x 2400 for a 10” x 12” cover. The higher the dpi, the more detailed and sharp your custom laptop skins will look. Most skin printers prefer to receive artwork in either a .jpg, .gif, .tiff, or .psd format via e-mail with the sizing of your laptop.
Placing Your Laptop Skins
Before placing your skins, read the manufacturer recommendation on whether your should install it wet or dry for the best results. Sometimes, applying soapy water to the skin is recommended, but most manufacturers say applying it dry works just fine. In addition, read the manufacturer's recommendations for keeping your skin in good condition.
Show your personal style to the world with laptop skins. They can add some personality to your boring old laptop.
